HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert carried a commanding first-half lead into the locker room, but Pitt-Greensburg used a second-half surge to hand the Hawks a 74–68 setback in AMCC men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.
Hilbert shot an impressive 62.5 percent from the field in the opening half and connected on six three-pointers to build a 49–37 advantage at intermission. The Hawks led for much of the contest and held Pitt-Greensburg to 52.0 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Hilbert built their largest lead – 13 points (52-29 at 19:12)- off their first field goal attempt after intermission. But Greensburg went on a run and knotted the score at 56-all seven minutes later. The Hawks stretched their lead back to seven (63-56) yet empty trips offensively allowed the Bobcats to jump back on top 69-66 before a tip-in layup trimmed the difference back to a one-possession game. Greensburg hit two free throws in the final 30-seconds to ensure their road win.
Ari Jones led Hilbert with a game-high 19 points, knocking down 7-of-11 shots and three triples.
Larry Morse added 14 points and six rebounds, while
Iyan Bremer contributed nine points and six boards on the stat sheet but was a beast competing in a fast paced, hard fought game for 36 minutes.
Jayden Montgomery finished with seven rebounds and six assists, and
Demetrius Robinson pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.
Hilbert controlled the glass with a 42–33 rebounding edge and generated 15 second-chance points, but the Hawks struggled to find consistency offensively in the second half, shooting 21.9 percent from the floor.
Pitt-Greensburg capitalized at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the comeback.
Hilbert (12–9, 5–7 AMCC) will look to bounce back when they travel to Alfred State College for a 7 pm tip in the double header AMCC February 11th.
