Men's Basketball Escapes With 2-Point Win at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Basketball outlasted Alfred State College, 63-61, in an AMCC road win Wednesday evening inside the Orvis Activities Center.  The Hawks (13-9, 6-7 AMCC) and Pioneers battled to the final horn with Hilbert recording a season sweep against A-State (5-18, 3-11).

Hilbert built a 10-point halftime advantage, 38-28, after shooting an efficient 53.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

Alfred State found energy at both ends of the floor and outscored the Hawks 33-25 in the final frame, but Hilbert recovered defensively late in the game while scoring six points in a 40-second span to grab the win.

The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes, highlighting the tightly contested conference matchup.

Iyan Bremer led the Hawks with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers including the game winner with 28-seconds left.

Jayden Montgomery added 16 points, including a 3-point play with 1:22 seconds left to lift the Hawks by one, while also chipping in eight assists, six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a strong all-around performance.

Off the bench, Demetrius Robinson contributed eight points (4-for-6) and six rebounds.

Hilbert shot 43.3 percent from the field and held Alfred State to 30.7 percent shooting, including just 9.1 percent from three-point range in the second half. The Hawks also controlled the paint with a 38-34 scoring edge inside and added 13 fast-break points but struggled to get to the foul line.

Hilbert returns to Hamburg this weekend and will host Mount Aloysius College (4-18, 2-11) in a 3 pm tip February 14th.  The Hawks will honor seniors Ronnie Lewis, Joshua Polk and student assistant coach Andy Herrik prior to the game.
