Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Andrew Loveless

Women's Basketball Bested by Behrend

ERIE, Pa. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball traveled to the Junker Center this evening where the Hawks fell 90-34 to the Penn State Behrend Lions.

Hilbert opened the game with a 3‑pointer from Kayla Johnson at 9:06 and a free throw from Hailey Alba to take a 4–0 lead. Penn State Behrend answered immediately, hitting a three on the next possession and following it with a series of interior scores. By the 7‑minute mark, the Lions had taken an 8–6 lead. Behrend closed the quarter on a 31–4 run, building a 34–10 advantage while shooting 13‑for‑24 from the field and scoring 12 points off Hilbert turnovers.

Behrend continued to increase the margin early in the second quarter, converting on its first two field goals and adding four free throws from Julia Balaski to reach a 40–13 lead at 8:02. Hilbert got a pair of threes from Johnson and a free throw from Blair in the frame, but a  24‑7 quarter extended the halftime lead to 58–17 for the Lions.

The hosts opened the third quarter on a 13-0 run before Blair got the Hawks on the board with a layup. Another bucket from Blair, and a jumper by Alba rounded out the Hilbert scoring in the period.

Hilbert produced its most consistent scoring stretch in the final frame. Learsi Sabala scored six points, Alba connected on a mid‑range jumper at 7:08, and Mia Aldaya buried a 3‑pointer with 19 seconds remaining for Hilbert's final points. Behrend was held to six points in the quarter but maintained its lead to close out the 90–34 result.

Johnson and Blair led Hilbert with nine points each, with Johnson hitting three 3‑pointers. Alba scored seven, while Sabala added six points and a team‑high 10 rebounds.
