FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Hockey traveled to take on St. John Fisher this evening to kick off the team's final series of the season. In the first ever matchup between the Hawks and Cardinals, the hosts used multiple goals in each period to take an 8-0 UCHC victory.
The Cardinals struck first midway through the opening period and carried a 3–0 advantage into the first intermission. St. John Fisher added three more goals in the second period and closed out the scoring with two tallies in the third to secure the non-conference victory.
Hilbert goalkeepers
Brook Thompson and
Tia Card combined for 44 saves, facing consistent pressure throughout the contest. Thompson stopped 20 shots in the opening half of the game, while Card made 24 saves over the final 29:25 of action.
Defensively, the Hawks recorded 20 blocked shots, led by
Jamie Bower and
Jacqueline Alaburda with six and three blocks, respectively. The Hawks were led in the faceoff circle by
Sophia Gannon who won six draws, while
Victoria Battaglia and Alaburda each recorded a shot on goal.
Hilbert earned three power-play chances in the contest and fired a pair of shots with the extra skater, while the Hawks killed off five powerplay opportunities of the Cardinals.
