ALFRED, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball dropped a 64–38 road decision to Alfred State on Wednesday evening.
Alfred State set the tone early, building a 13–8 lead after the opening quarter.
Kayla Johnson provided the first five Hilbert points of the contest before
Nyema Blair connected on a deep three at the buzzer to cut into the Pioneers' lead.
The second quarter would see Hilbert match its scoring effort from the first, led by six points from
Bianca Iten, but the hosts added 15 more points to extend the advantage to 28-16 at the break.
Hilbert responded out of halftime with its strongest stretch of the night. The Hawks shot 6‑for‑11 from the field in the third quarter, including three made threes from
Mia Aldaya, and posted 16 points to slow Alfred State's momentum. However, the Pioneers would also enjoy their best offensive output of the contest in the frame with 21 points to make it a 49-32 lead heading into the game's final ten minutes
The Hawks got buckets from Blair,
Learsi Sabala, and
Ty'teareya Thomas in the frame as Alfred State slowed down the Hilbert offense late to seal the conference win.
Aldaya led Hilbert with nine points on 3‑for‑7 shooting from deep. Iten followed with eight points and a team‑high eight rebounds.
Nyema Blair added seven points and three assists, while
Kayla Johnson and
Hailey Alba contributed five points apiece.
