HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Hockey wrapped up its season series against Elmira College with an 8-0 defeat at the Nike Base this afternoon. The Soaring Eagles, who received votes in the latest USCHO.com poll, were powered by a six goal second period in the UCHC matchup.
Elmira set the tone early with sustained offensive pressure, forcing Hilbert goaltender
Tia Card into a heavy workload throughout the first period. Card turned aside 21 shots in the opening frame, but the Soaring Eagles broke through with goals at 9:11 and 12:50 to take a 2–0 lead. Hilbert earned a powerplay in the period but remained scoreless after 20 minutes.
The second period proved decisive as Elmira converted just 51 seconds in, sparking a six‑goal surge that extended the lead to 8–0 by intermission.
Hilbert settled in during the third behind a strong relief appearance from
Summer Newman, who stopped all 24 shots she faced to close out the game in her first collegiate action. The Hawks generated shots from
Jacqueline Alaburda and
Vanessa Koenig in the frame.
Card finished with 38 saves over the first two periods before Newman's perfect third-period performance. On the defensive side,
Caitlin Conrad led the Hawks with five blocked shots, while
Vanessa Koenig,
Jamie Bower,
Brooke Kwiecien, and
Sophia Gannon each added three. Alaburda led Hilbert with a pair of shots on goal.
