BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Hockey dropped a 6–0 decision to Buffalo State on Friday afternoon on the road, as the Bengals scored four times in the opening period to take control early.
Buffalo State (9-5-0) wasted little time getting on the board, netting the game's first goal just over two minutes into the contest. The hosts added two more tallies midway through the first period before closing out the frame with a late goal to take a 4–0 lead into the first intermission.
Hilbert rotated goaltenders in the contest, with
Jewely Monford making 17 saves in the opening 20 minutes before
Brook Thompson took over for the final two periods and finished with 39 stops. The Hawks were tested throughout the afternoon, facing 62 shots overall, while the defense blocked six attempts, led by two by
Victoria Koenig.
Buffalo State extended its lead with an even-strength goal late in the second period and added one more marker midway through the third to account for the final margin. The Hawks successfully killed off the game's lone penalty, holding the Bengals scoreless on the power play.
Offensively, Hilbert generated a handful of chances but was unable to solve Buffalo State netminder Amelia Knott, who turned aside all seven shots she faced to earn the shutout. Koenig,
Victoria Battaglia, and
Kelsey Fuller all fired two shots each, while
Izabelle Wagner also recorded a shot on goal.
