Women's Hockey Taken Down by Hood College

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Hockey returned to the Nike Base this afternoon to host Hood College in a non-conference matchup. The Hawks battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell 4–0 to the visiting Blazers.

Hood opened the scoring late in the first period when Alyssa Wilson found the back of the net at 15:24, capitalizing on a rebound. Brooke Kwiecien, Kelsey Fuller, and Jacqueline Alaburda each generated a shot in the frame, but the Hawks were held off the scoreboard across the first 20 minutes, taking a 1-0 deficit into the locker room.

The middle frame saw Hood extend its advantage with two goals five minutes apart. Dakota Ormiston doubled the lead at 11:29 before Averi Reider added a third at 14:54. Hilbert countered with its strongest stretch of the afternoon during a trio of second-period power plays, including eight shots with the extra skater, but the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net.

Hilbert continued to press in the third, drawing another powerplay opportunity, but Hood held strong defensively, and with Hilbert's net empty in the final minutes, Mia Cheesebrough sealed the result for the Blazers with an unassisted tally at 18:59.

The Hawks received an outstanding performance from goaltender Brook Thompson, who turned away 55 shots including ten while shorthanded as the Hawks killed off all three Blazer powerplays on the afternoon.

Victoria Battaglia and Kwiecien led the Hawks offensively with seven shots each, while Vanessa Koenig, Amelia Murphy, and Caitlin Conrad each blocked three shots for a Hilbert unit that blocked 16 Hood shots.
