HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Basketball dropped an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest to La Roche University Saturday afternoon, falling 75–56 at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.
The Hawks faced an early deficit as the Redhawks opened the game in attack-mode building a 40-22 halftime lead off efficient shooting and strong interior play. Every time Hilbert appeared to make a run, La Roche recorded quick hits in transition which put pressure on the hosts to convert at their offensive end.
The Hawks responded with improved energy in the second half, but they were unable to stop the outside shooting and the penetration to the paint made by La Roche.
Ari Jones paced the Hawks with 15 points and eight rebounds, getting to the free throw line consistently (9-for-12) and providing a spark on both ends of the floor.
Larry Morse contributed 11 points and a team-best nine rebounds, battling inside against a physical La Roche frontcourt who double and triple teamed him in the lane all day long.
Hilbert was able to secure 19 offensive rebounds and generated 18 second-chance points, but despite the effort, Hilbert struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 26.1 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point range. La Roche capitalized on its opportunities, particularly in the paint, scoring 42 points and finished the game with 17 assists on 32 buckets.
Hilbert now stands at 12–6 overall and 5–4 in AMCC play. They will have a week to get back on track as their next game is set for Saturday, January 31st at Penn State Altoona.
