HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Basketball delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance Thursday night, rolling past Alfred State, 81–53, in AMCC action at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center. The victory improves the Hawks to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Hilbert jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, building a 40–20 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and strong defensive pressure. The Hawks continued to control the tempo in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 41–33 to seal the convincing home win.
Larry Morse was unstoppable in the paint, heading into the break with 16 points before finishing with a game-high 27 points on 13-of-18 shooting, while adding three rebounds and a block in just 26 minutes of action.
Ari Jones provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including three free throws, while adding three rebounds and two assists.
Jayden Montgomery filled the stat sheet with 10 points and a team-high seven assists, directing the offense and helping Hilbert pile up 25 assists on 35 made field goals.
Ne'Sean Fowlks and
Sonny Williams distributed the ball well recording five helpers each while the Hawks also received strong bench production, totaling 26 points, led by
Sam Platt, who chipped in eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Hawks dominated inside, owning a 52–32 advantage in points in the paint, and finished the night shooting 49.3 percent from the field. Hilbert had plenty of looks from beyond the arc with five on nine players hitting at least one 3-point field goal.
Defensively, Hilbert held Alfred State to just 31.0 percent shooting and limited the Pioneers to 3-of-19 from three-point range.
Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they welcome La Roche University to the Hafner in a early afternoon contest - time to be determined. The Hawks and Redhawks will shift their game to earlier in the day so the visitors can travel back to Pittsburgh before the pending ice storm creates unsafe travel conditions.
