Balanced Scoring Leads Hawks Over Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC Play

GREENSBURG, PA. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball earned a hard‑fought 49–45 road victory at Pitt‑Greensburg on Saturday afternoon, using a balanced scoring effort to secure the AMCC win.

The Hawks opened the game with energy, jumping ahead behind early perimeter shooting from Mia Aldaya, who knocked down three first‑quarter threes to pace a 13–10 lead after ten minutes. Meghan Balen, Hailey Alba, and Kayla Johnson each also scored in the frame.

Both teams battled through a defensive second quarter, with neither side able to create separation. Promesse Rwigamba got the Hilbert offense started with a pair of mid-range jumpers, before Ty'teareya Thomas and Bianca Iten added buckets to send the Hawks into the locker room up 21-19.

The Hawks delivered their strongest stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 15–6 to build a double‑digit cushion. Nyema Blair sparked the surge with a three-pointer on the opening possession, and a three from Aldaya combined with a series of transition baskets from Learsi Sabala widened the margin. Hilbert's defense forced ten turnovers in the quarter, fueling the run and giving the Hawks a 36–25 lead heading into the final frame.

Pitt‑Greensburg battled back in the fourth, climbing within a single point at 40–39 with five minutes remaining. The Hawks held steady, with Blair converting a layup to regain the lead before Meghan Balen added a crucial free throw. Iten delivered the game's pivotal basket with under a minute to play, knocking down a clutch three to stretch the Hilbert advantage to 48–43. After a Bobcats score, Kayla Johnson sealed the result at the line, securing the four‑point victory.

Every Hawk recorded a point in the game, with Aldaya leading the way with 12 points, all from beyond the arc, while Sabala contributed nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sabala, Iten, and Johnson each recorded three steals to lead a Hilbert defense that forced 24 turnovers.
