GREENSBURG, PA. – Hilbert College Men's Basketball battled wire‑to‑wire with Pitt‑Greensburg Saturday afternoon at Chambers Hall, falling just short in a 64–60 contest.
The opening half featured a fast pace and strong interior play from the Hawks, who leaned on
Larry Morse in the paint. Morse scored Hilbert's first six points and continued to challenge the Bobcats at the rim, finishing the period with 14 points on highly efficient shooting. Despite Hilbert's 51.7 percent mark from the field in the first half, Pitt‑Greensburg's perimeter attack, led by Ty Keffer's four threes before the break, swung momentum back toward the home side. The Hawks entered halftime trailing 37–33 after a late Bobcat surge.
Hilbert opened the second half with renewed defensive pressure and found timely scoring from
Ne'Sean Fowlks and
Ari Jones, who chipped away at the deficit and helped the Hawks pull even multiple times. Jones' three-pointer at the 15:36 mark trimmed the margin to two, and moments later a steal from
Jayden Montgomery set up a transition basket that briefly put Hilbert ahead. The teams continued to trade baskets through the middle stages of the half, with neither side leading by more than a few possessions.
As the clock wound down, Hilbert again erased a late deficit, tying the game at 60–60 with under a minute remaining after
Ronnie Lewis calmly sank two free throws. But Pitt‑Greensburg capitalized on second‑chance opportunities in the final 34 seconds, converting a pair of inside baskets and adding free throws after the Hawks were forced to foul. A final three‑point attempt from Hilbert narrowly missed its mark, allowing the Bobcats to secure the four‑point win in a game that featured eight lead changes and seven ties.
Morse powered the Hilbert offense with a game‑high 20 points and nine rebounds, setting the tone inside from the opening tip. Jones added 12 points, including two threes and several key second‑half baskets, while
Jayden Montgomery contributed 10 points and five rebounds. Lewis helped Hilbert control the boards with 10 rebounds of his own, and Fowlks supplied seven points. The Hawks finished with 38 points in the paint and 21 second‑chance points.
