PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball dropped an AMCC road contest to unbeaten conference foe La Roche University, 82–56, on Saturday afternoon at the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center.
Hilbert battled early with the Redhawks and held a one-point advantage late in the first quarter before La Roche (5-0 AMCC) closed the period on a last-second basket to take a 19–18 lead. The Hawks kept pace in the opening ten minutes, shooting 50 percent from the field and using a pair of early
Mia Aldaya three-pointers.
Learsi Sabala poured in eight points in the frame and
Nyema Blair and
Kayla Johnson each added a bucket.
La Roche used a strong second quarter to create separation, outscoring Hilbert 25–10 to take a 44–28 lead into halftime. The Redhawks capitalized on turnovers and transition opportunities, scoring 32 points off turnovers on the afternoon.
Out of the locker room, the Hawks looked to cut into the deficit thanks to back-to-back threes from
Bianca Iten and Aldaya, but the hosts continued answer Hilbert and used a connection from beyond the arc at the buzzer to take a 61-42 advantage into the final quarter.
A steady final frame from the hosts closed the contest out, 82-56. The Hawks got contributions at the line from Sabala, Blair, Johnson, and
Promesse Rwigamba down the stretch.
Sophomore
Learsi Sabala led the Hawks offensively, finishing with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds, while also going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Mia Aldaya added 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers, and
Bianca Iten chipped in 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
