Women's Soccer Drops AMCC Opener

CRESSON, PA — Hilbert College Women's Soccer opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on the road Saturday, coming up just short in a 3-2 setback against Mount Aloysius at Kelly Field.

The Mounties struck early with a goal in the 4th minute, but the Hawks responded with strong play in the midfield and drew level in the 19th minute. Evin Stauffer provided the equalizer, finishing a setup from Kendall Shetter to make it 1-1.

Mount Aloysius regained the lead midway through the first half and carried a 2-1 advantage into the break. Despite back-and-forth play, the hosts added a third in the 73rd minute. However, The Hawks quickly responded, cutting the deficit in half just four minutes later when Ja'Lynn Sanders headed in a cross from Mikaylah Nissan to make it a 3-2 game.

Hilbert pressed for the tying goal over the final 10 minutes but were unable to break through as the Hawks fell in the team's conference opener.

Goalkeeper Keira McFarland was solid across the 90 minutes for the Hawks, making nine stops on 12 Mount Aloysius shots on goal. Offensively, the Hawks were efficient, converting two of their four shots on goal into scores. Stauffer (two), Vanessa Van Slyke, and Sanders provided the attempts on net for Hilbert.

The Hawks will look to even their conference record when Carlow comes to town for Hilbert's AMCC home opener on Saturday, October 4th at 1 pm.
