HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Soccer extended its win streak to three this afternoon with a 2–1 senior day victory over SUNY Delhi. The Hawks used first-half goals from
Ja'Lynn Sanders and
Michaela Olson and steady defensive play to earn the win.
Prior to kickoff, Hilbert honored seniors
Jessica Dyche,
Molly McManus,
Vanessa Van Slyke,
Laura Smith, and
Madison Matuszak for their contributions to the program, on and off the field.
When the action began on the pitch, Sanders, the reigning AMCC Offensive Player of the Week, picked up right where she left off as the freshman opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an unassisted strike to give Hilbert a 1–0 advantage. Less than three minutes later, Sanders set up Olson, who finished her opportunity in the 22nd minute to double the lead.
The Broncos capitalized on a corner kick opportunity in the 39th minute to round out the first half scoring to send the game into the break with the Hawks up 2-1.
Hilbert controlled play when the second half began, controlling the possession while keeping SUNY Delhi from recording a shot goal to see out the non-conference victory.
Hilbert outshot SUNY Delhi 17–7, including an 8–1 advantage in shots on goal. Sanders paced the Hawks with eight shots (four on goal), contributing one goal and one assist. Olson recorded one goal on her lone shot on target, while
Mikaylah Nissan (2 shots, 1 on goal) and
Acadia Evans (3 shots) also provided offensive pressure.
Goalkeeper
Keira McFarland played the full 90 minutes, registering one save to earn her fourth win of the season.
