HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Women's Soccer battled hard on Tuesday afternoon on Hawk Field looking to start off the season 2-0, but visiting Houghton proved too strong, handing the Hawks a 4-0 loss in non-conference play.
The Hawks (1-1-0) held the Highlanders scoreless for much of the first half before Houghton broke through in the 24th minute with the opening goal. Hilbert generated six shots in the first half, five of which came from
Ja'Lynn Sanders, but the Hawks were unable to match the goal of the Highlanders as the hosts found themselves down 1-0 at the break.
Sanders began the second half with a pair of shots on frame, looking to ignite a comeback, but two saves by the Houghton goalie ignited a three-goal run for the visitors to put the game away.
Goalkeeper
Keira McFarland turned in a strong performance, recording 18 saves as the Hawks weathered 40 total shots from the visitors.
