HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Soccer got back in the win column Tuesday afternoon in decisive fashion as the Hawks defeated Thiel College 4-0 at home. The victory, the team's second shutout win of the year, improves Hilbert to 2-3-1.
Hilbert owned possession and the large majority of the chances all afternoon, as the Hawks outshot Thiel by a staggering 53-4 margin. The hosts pressed early, looking for the game's first goal, and after eight straight saves by the Thiel goalkeeper to start the game, Hilbert finally broke through with two quick strikes.
For the third time this season,
Ja'Lynn Sanders scored the opening goal of the game, this time in the 24
th minute. The freshman forward intercepted a Thiel goal kick and fired a shot into the top of the net for a 1-0 advantage. Less than a minute later, Hilbert would double the lead as
Acadia Evans found
Kendall Shetter all alone in the box for her first-career collegiate goal to make it a 2-0 game, which is how the first half would end.
Sanders continued her standout performance in the second half, striking twice more to complete her hat trick. She found the net in the 64th and 82nd minutes, pushing the Hawks' lead to a decisive 4-0. Sanders finished the match with a game-high 14 shots, nine on target.
Hilbert's offense overwhelmed Thiel's defense, forcing goalkeeper Madison Rodgers into 27 saves. On the other end, Hilbert keeper
Keira McFarland had a steady outing, stopping all three shots she faced to record her second clean sheet of the season.
Twelve Hawks recorded shots on goal in the contest, with nine firing multiple shots on target in a contest that saw Hilbert record the team's most shots in a game since 2023
