Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Andrew Loveless

Women's Basketball Taken Down by La Roche

PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert College Women's Basketball traveled to Kerr Fitness Center this afternoon for a tough test against the La Roche Redhawks, who sit in second place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference standings.

Hilbert fell behind early in the contest, and the Hawks were unable to catch up to the high-powered offense of the hosts as La Roche improved to 11-2 in the AMCC with a 105-42 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A pair of free throws by Kylie Morgan knotted the game at two-all early, but Hilbert only managed three more points the rest of the way in the opening quarter as the Redhawks held a 29-5 lead after ten minutes.
  • The offense continued for La Roche in the second quarter, as they tacked on 31 more points in the frame for a 60-18 halftime advantage. Hilbert found success on the perimeter in the quarter on made threes by Kelsey Schlagenhauf and Mackenzie Catan.
  • Schlagenhauf added three more points out of the break, and Morgan and Kayla Johnson each tossed in a pair of third-quarter points, but La Roche used multiple runs to bring an 83-25 advantage into the final quarter.
  • The fourth quarter would be the highest scoring frame of the contest for the Hawks, as Schlagenhauf and Morgan each worked inside to finish at the rim and earn free throws in the 17-point quarter.
  • Morgan scored nine of her team-high 18 points in the game's final ten minutes, while Schlagenhauf chipped in with five points for the Hawks.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Morgan continued her hot stretch with a second career-high in the last seven days. The freshman's 18 points and six made free throws both represent a new personal best.
  • Johnson led the Hawks in both rebounds (six) and assists (two), while also contributing four points.
