HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Basketball held a 26-20 halftime lead against Pitt-Bradford this evening, but a strong second half from the Panthers saw the visitors take this one 69-56.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hilbert jumped out to a 9-2 advantage early in the game thanks to a three from Kayla Johnson, a pair of buckets from Kelsey Schlagenhauf, and a jumper from Mackenzie Catan.
- Bradford clawed back into the game, but three late points from Kylie Morgan allowed Hilbert to hold a 12-9 lead after ten minutes.
- Johnson opened the second quarter with back-to-back threes and LaDasia Leak scored in transition to extend it to 20-11. Four points from Morgan and two from Schlagenhauf sent the Hawks to the break up 26-20.
- A layup from Leak and a three from Catan stretched the lead to eleven points for the Hawks two minutes into the half.
- However, Bradford scored 19 of the remaining 24 third quarter points to take their first lead and head into the final frame up 39-35.
- Hilbert knotted the game at 39 early in the fourth, but Bradford immediately responded with five quick points.
- The Hawks worked to cut the lead to under five on multiple occasions, but were unable to come all the way back before time ran out.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Morgan (eleven points, twelve rebounds) notched her second consecutive double-double, while Leak recorded career highs in points (eleven) and rebounds (ten) for her first career double-double.
- Johnson led all Hilbert scorers with fourteen points and hit a game-high four threes on 4-5 shooting from deep.
- Schlagenhauf neared a double-double of her own with twelve points and eight boards.
- Catan contributed on both ends for the Hawks with eight points, eight rebounds, four blocks, four assists, and two steals.
