Women's Basketball Taken Down By Mounties

CRESSON, PA. – Hilbert Women's Basketball moved to 1-1 in AMCC play this afternoon after a 74-49 defeat to Mount Aloysius.

The Hawks battled back in the second quarter to cut the Mountie lead to single digits heading into the locker room, but a big second half from the hosts would make the difference as Hilbert dropped to .500 in conference action.

After LaDasia Leak opened the scoring, Mount Aloysius scored 21 of the game's next 24 points to take control of the contest early on. Nyema Blair and Kayla Johnson each connected on jumpers to end the quarter to cut the deficit.

Hilbert carried the momentum into the beginning of the second quarter as the Hawks scored the first nine points of the second frame. Caycee Scott got the scoring started before Learsi Sabala, and Jessee Jonathan connected on jumpers inside and Blair hit from deep to make it 23-18. Leak and Jonathan each added four more points before halftime as the Hawks trailed 35-26 at the break.

After the third quarter started with back-and-forth scoring, including a three-point hit from Mia Aldaya, the Mounties ended the period on a 10-2 run to take a 51-35 lead into the game's final ten minutes.

Mount Aloysius continued the scoring into the fourth quarter, as the hosts hit on 73% of their attempts in the final ten minutes to close out the conference victory.

Hilbert used a balanced scoring attack this afternoon, led by Leak's nine points and Blair's seven points. Sabala led the Hawks with ten boards, and Kayla Johnson paced the squad with four assists.
