HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Hockey battled Buffalo State on home ice this afternoon at the Nike Base. The visiting Bengals used three first-period goals to jump out to an early lead and take down the Hawks, 5-0.
Jewely Monford was solid between the pipes for Hilbert all evening, making 51 stops in the contest, including 28 saves on the final 30 Buff State shots.
Buffalo State opened the scoring at 8:45 of the first period and added two more goals before intermission to take a 3–0 lead. Hilbert got its lone shot of the frame from
Victoria Battaglia, who tallied three shots, and a game-high ten faceoff wins.
The Hawks settled in defensively over the final 40 minutes, limiting the Bengals scoring chances, while also firing eleven shots of their own in that span. The visitors added a goal in both the second and third periods to wrap up the scoring.
Battaglia,
Victoria Koenig, and
Kelsey Fuller all recorded three shots in the contest, while
Sophia Perry (two) and
Angelica Hoogerdyk also took shots on goal.
Defensively, Hilbert blocked 18 shots as a team, led by
Victoria Koenig's three.
Megan Moceri,
Jamie Bower,
Izabelle Wagner, and Fuller each blocked a pair of shots as well.
