Women's Basketball Falls to Houghton

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Basketball fell to Houghton, 85-32 this evening inside the Hafner Recreation Center in non-conference play.

The Hawks shot well from behind the arc (33%) in the contest, but Houghton used ten threes of their own to build and maintain their lead throughout the game.

The Highlanders started strong, as the visitors built a 22-8 advantage after ten minutes of play. Hailey Alba, LaDasia Leak, Kayla Johnson, and Jessee Jonathon all scored inside for the Hawks in the quarter.

The Hawks' best offensive stretch came in the second quarter, as three layups from Johnson and a bucket from Caycee Scott saw Hilbert score eight quick points in the frame. Jonathan connected from deep late in the quarter to round out the Hilbert first-half scoring.

After Houghton scored the first seven points out of the break, Leak responded with back-to-back buckets for the Hawks. The visitors ended the quarter on an 18-4 run following Leak's four points to take a commanding 67-27 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Mia Aldaya knocked down her second three-pointer of the game, and Promesse Rwigamba added a jumper to complete the Hilbert scoring.

Johnson finished with a team-high 9 points, along with 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Aldaya added 6 points on 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc, and Leak led the way with 8 rebounds. Sabala contributed 6 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block, while Jonathan posted 5 points off the bench.
