Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Andrew Loveless

Women's Basketball Falls to Elmira

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball hosted Elmira College inside the Hafner Recreation Center this afternoon in non-conference action. The visiting Soaring Eagles held a nine-point advantage at halftime and used a big third quarter to take down the Hawks, 70-51.

Hilbert started the game hot from behind the arc, as Mia Aldaya (two) and LaDasia Leak combined to knock down three triples in the opening frame. Elmira answered with a pair of threes, and consistent scoring inside to hold a 21-16 lead after ten minutes.

Hilbert continued pushing offensively in the second quarter, converting all six free-throw attempts and a pair of layups from Learsi Sabala and Kayla Johnson, but the offense of the visitors remained steady to extend the lead to 36-27 heading into the break.

Out of the locker room, Elmira shot an impressive 78.6% from the field and used a 13-1 run to take control of the game in the third quarter as the Soaring Eagles expanded its lead to 21 going into the final ten minutes.

Hilbert held Elmira to just ten points while scoring 12 of their own in the final quarter, but the lead was too much to overcome as the Hawks dropped to 0-3 with the defeat.

Aldaya led Hilbert with 14 points, hitting four three-pointers and logging 37 minutes. Leak delivered a well-rounded performance with ten points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Sabala posted nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Johnson added eight points and two steals.
