UTICA, N.Y. — Hilbert College Women's Hockey played the first conference contest in program history this evening against Utica University. In the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opener for the Hawks, Hilbert fell 8-0 to the Pioneers who received votes in the recent DIII Hockey News and USCHO polls.
Week one UCHC Co-Goaltender of the Week,
Brook Thompson got the start for Hilbert in net and made 49 stops in just over 41 minutes of action, while
Jewely Monford played a nearly flawless 18:13 in relief, stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Utica opened the scoring midway through the first period and built a 3–0 lead after 20 minutes, using a power-play goal at 9:24 and a shorthanded tally later in the period to gain the early advantage.
The Hawks had a pair of powerplays in the opening frame but could not find the back of the net on their lone shot off the stick of
Kelsey Fuller.
Utica added two more goals in the second period before scoring three times in the third to seal the result in UCHC play.
Victoria Battaglia led the way with a pair of shots for Hilbert, while
Jacqueline Alaburda and
Caitlin Conrad each blocked four Pioneer shots.
