FREDONIA, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Basketball rallied late to take down Fredonia 71-64 tonight in non-conference action. After trailing by two at half, and as many as eight in the second half, the Hawks used a 24-3 run to take control late and earn the road win.
The first half saw the teams start slow with neither side gaining much separation as the Blue Devils narrowly led 27-25 at the break.
Jaden Mitchell and
Jayden Montgomery each produced seven points in the opening 20 minutes as the duo combined for nearly half of Hilbert's first-half points.
When play resumed, the teams traded buckets before Fredonia used a 9-0 run to open up the game's largest lead at 42-34. However, this Blue Devil scoring streak was immediately followed up by eight minutes of Hawk dominance, as Hilbert found themselves up 58-45 after the 24-3 run that saw six different Hawks pour in points to flip the script on the game.
Ralph Batista,
Larry Morse, Mitchell, Montgomery,
Ne'Sean Fowlks, and
Ronnie Lewis all contributed on both ends of the floor in this stretch for Hilbert.
With Fredonia making a late push, the Hawks buried nine free throws in the game's final 1:19 to shut the door and earn the come-from-behind road non-conference game to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Mitchell and Montgomery led the Hawks with 18 and 14 points, respectively, while
Ari Jones (eleven) and Morse (ten) each scored in double-digits. Fawlks added six points to his team-high 14 boards off the bench, and Lewis and Batista each connected on their lone shot from behind the arc.
