ELMIRA, N.Y. – Hilbert College Men's Basketball earned a non-conference road win on Saturday afternoon, powering past Elmira 87–76 inside Speidel Gymnasium. Five Hawks scored in double figures as Hilbert improved to 3–1 on the season.
The teams played an even first half, heading to the locker room tied at 38–38, but Hilbert's inside offense made a difference down the stretch as the Hawks scored 54 paint points and held a 46–37 advantage on the boards.
Larry Morse led the Hawks with a team-high 20 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting while adding seven rebounds.
Ari Jones added 16 points and six boards, and
Ronnie Lewis recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
After the two sides traded buckets for the first 30 minutes of the contest, the Hawks began to pull ahead with under seven minutes to go. Morse ignited the Hawks on a 7-2 run, before Lewis and Jones each added back-to-back scores to extend the lead to a game-best twelve points with 3:16 left.
Morse, Lewis and Jones all continued to lead the way for Hilbert down the stretch, as they each added a bucket late to keep Elmira from coming back and close out the win for Hilbert.
Jaden Mitchell chipped in 12 points, while
Jayden Montgomery did it all for the Hawks with eight points, seven rebounds, and a team-high nine assists.
Sonny Williams rounded out the double-digit scorers for Hilbert providing 12 points with three assists and a steal.
