Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Andrew Loveless

Women's Hockey Drops Second Straight to Lebanon Valley

HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Hockey took on the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen for a second straight day as the two teams squared off at the Nike Base this afternoon. The Hawks trailed by just one goal after a well-played first period, but offensive outbursts of three and five goals by the Flying Dutchmen in the second and third periods led to a 9-0 defeat for Hilbert.

Lebanon Valley fired the game's first eleven shots, but Hilbert goalie Brook Thompson stood tall in not, stopping them all to keep her team in the game. After settling in, the Hawks generated some offense of their own, as Sophia Perry and Kelsey Fuller each recorded shots on net, before Hilbert earned the first power play opportunity of the contest. While playing with the extra skater, Brooke Kwiecien and Fuller (2) each had looks to open the scoring, but Flying Dutchmen goalie Lacy Bigelow kept the 0 on the scoreboard.

The successful penalty kill gave the visitors the momentum they needed to break the ice before the end of the opening frame. With just over four minutes to go in the first period, Sky Campanile found the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game, which is how it stood at the conclusion of the period.

Just under four minutes into the middle frame, Lebanon Valley doubled its lead, and by the six-minute mark in the period, the lead had grown to 4-0 for the Flying Dutchmen after a short-handed tally and an even strength marker.

Kaitlin Cowie and Anna Faulkner looked to get the Hawks on the board late in the period as the duo combined for four late shots, but Hilbert remained unable to find the back of the net.

Lebanon Valley saved its best offensive period of the weekend for last, as the Flying Dutchmen added five goals in the game's final frame to take this one 9-0.
