HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Hockey returned to the ice this evening after the holiday break, as the team hosted the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen. The visitors left the first period with a 3-0 lead, but the Hawks settled in and allowed just two goals across the final two frames, while also creating chances on offense despite the 5-0 score.
Tia Card was sharp to begin the contest, making fourteen consecutive stops as the Flying Dutchmen recorded the games first fourteen attempts on goal. After
Kelsey Fuller's attempt just missed the net, Lebanon Valley established possession in the Hilbert end and opened the scoring just over halfway into the opening frame. They added two more tallies before the opening 20 minutes were up to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.
Hilbert came out looking to cut into the lead in the third period as
Anna Faulkner (3) and
Caitlin Conrad each fired shots on net, but Lebanon Valley goalie, Lacy Bigelow kept the puck out of the back of the net, which allowed her team to add to their lead. A point shot from Najla Hatem was tipped in by Addison Taylert 7:41 into the middle period to make it a 4-0 game. The Flying Dutchmen pressed to break the game open in the frame, but Card and the Hawks worked to keep the visitors off the scoreboard the rest of the period.
The third period saw back-and-forth action with each team creating offense.
Alexis Cunningham,
Caitlin Conrad, and
Kaitlin Cowie (2), each recorded shots, while Card stopped 18 of the 19 attempts of the Flying Dutchmen as Lebanon Valley added one more to their lead to win the non-conference battle 5-0.
