Women's Basketball Drops AMCC Contest to Alfred State

HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Basketball hosted Alfred State College this evening inside the Hafner Recreation Center for a second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference meeting between the Hawks and Pioneers this season.
 
After trailing by eight points at the break, the Hawks were unable to mount a second-half comeback as the visiting Pioneers used a steady and balanced offense to take this one 67-47.
 
The teams played a tight opening quarter, as Hilbert held a 10-9 advantage with 4:33 to go after a Kelsey Schlagenhauf jumper. Following the one-point Hawks' advantage, however, Alfred State scored the next 15 points to go ahead 24-10 early in the second quarter.
 
Following the run of the Pioneers, Mackenzie Catan hit a pair of threes to ignite a 14-8 Hilbert run to end the first half and send the Hawks into the locker room down eight.
 
Alfred State scored six early points in the third quarter, but Schlagenhauf answered with a layup, and Kayla Johnson connected from deep to cut into the lead. Catan and Schlagenhauf each added made threes of their own in the quarter, while Kylie Morgan scored inside to round out the Hilbert points in the frame.
 
Five different Hawks added points to the board in the final ten minutes of the game with Morgan, Johnson, Schlagenhauf, Catan, and Jessee Jonathan all chipping in with fourth quarter points. Alfred State added a pair of buckets in the final minute to extend the final score to 67-47.
 
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
 
Schlagenhauf and Catan each posted double-digit scoring performances with 15 and 13 points respectively. The duo also found success on the glass with Schlagenhauf posting a team-high nine boards, while Catan grabbed a season-high eight rebounds.
 
Morgan and Johnson each filled the stat sheet for the Hawks as Morgan added seven boards to her seven-point, two assist performance, and Johnson tossed in six points, three rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal.
 
UP NEXT

The Hawks stay in Hamburg for an afternoon AMCC matchup against Carlow this weekend. The Saturday, February 1st contest is set to tip off at 3 pm.
