ALTOONA, Pa – Hilbert College Women's Basketball fell to Penn State Altoona for a second time this season with a 41-64 defeat this evening in Adler Auditorium.
The offense of the Hawks picked up in the second half with improvements in both shooting percentage and points out of the locker room, but an 18-point halftime deficit would prove to be too much to overcome in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions started hot, scoring the game's first eleven points inside five minutes.
- Kayla Johnson opened the scoring the Hilbert with a free throw, before Mackenzie Catan connected from deep to make it 15-4. LaDasia Leak and Kelsey Schlagenhauf each added a pair of points late as the Hawks finished the quarter on a 4-0 run to make it 17-8 after ten minutes.
- Altoona started the second quarter with seven straight points a nine-point run later in the quarter to take a 35-17 lead into the locker room.
- Schlagenhauf scored eight of the nine Hilbert points in the second quarter as she led the Hawks with ten points at the break.
- Hilbert got the offense going out of the break, with a fourteen-point third quarter.
- Catan and McKenzie Walker each hit from behind the arc, while Kylie Morgan added four points in the quarter as the Hawks cut the lead by three heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.
- An early Catan three in the fourth quarter made it 46-34, but six straight Altoona points extended the advantage to 18 points with under four minutes to go.
- Johnson, Morgan, and Catan each connected inside the arc, and Schlagenhauf added a free throw to round out the Hilbert scoring in the quarter.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Schlagenhauf led the Hawks in points and rebounds with 13 and seven respectively, while sharing the team lead in assists (three) and steals (one) with Leak. Catan joined Schlagenhauf in double figures with an eleven-point effort on a team-high three made three pointers.
Johnson and Morgan each grabbed five boards, while Leak tossed in four points and three rebound to go with her trio of assists and lone steal.
