HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Basketball opened the 2025 portion of its schedule this evening when the Roos from SUNY Canton visited Hafner Recreation Center. In the final non-conference game of the campaign for the Hawks, Hilbert fell 37-70.
The Roos came out of the gate with the game's six points, before
Kylie Morgan cut the lead in half with a three-point play for the Hawks. After a made free throw from Canton,
Chloe Champagne made it a one-point game on a hit from behind the arc. However, a 13-2 scoring run from the visitors to end the quarter made it a 20-9 game after ten minutes of play.
The teams traded solid defensive possessions in a low-scoring second quarter. The Roos barely won the frame 8-7 to hold their lead heading into the locker room.
Canton caught fire out of the break, hitting on 58% of their shots in the third quarter, including a pair of makes from three and at the free throw line. Hilbert added buckets from Champagne,
Mackenzie Catan,
LaDasia Leak (2), and a free throw from
Kayla Johnson in the period, but the Hawks trailed 52-25 after three quarters.
Hilbert enjoyed its best offensive output in the game in the final quarter, but steady offense from Canton would be enough to hold on for the non-conference win.
Kelsey Schlagenhauf led the scoring for the Hawks in the frame with four points.
Morgan, Johnson, and Schlagenhauf each produced seven points to lead the way for Hilbert. Schlagenhauf added eight boards and a pair of blocks, while Champagne tossed in three assists.
