Women's Basketball Suffers AMCC Setback Against La Roche

HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Basketball hosted La Roche University this evening with the Hawks looking to win their second consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Contest. Despite Hilbert producing consistent offense with at least ten points in each quarter, including twelve in the second, third, and fourth quarters, the Hawks fell 97-46 as the Redhawks shot 57.1% from the field in the game.

Early on in the first quarter, not much separated the two teams as the game saw scores of 6-6 and 8-8 inside the first six minutes of action. Cianna Tobia (two made threes in the quarter) and Kelsey Schlagenhauf recorded the game-tying buckets for the Hawks in this span. After three straight buckets inside by the Redhawks to create separation on the scoreboard for the visitors, Kayla Johnson made it 14-10 with 2:15 to go in the quarter. However, the Johnson layup would be the last points in the frame for Hilbert as La Roche ended the first on a 7-0 run to make it 21-10 after ten minutes of play.

Tobia, Schlagenhauf, and Johnson continued to score for the Hawks when the second quarter began, with the trio combining for all twelve Hilbert points in the quarter, but a 25-point effort from La Roche sent the Hawks into the locker room down 46-22.

The third quarter replicated the second quarter from a points perspective, as La Roche once again outscored the Hawks 25-12 in ten minutes to make it 71-34 heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was highlighted by a ten-point Redhawk run as the visitors put the finishing touches on the 97-46 conference win.

Tobia and Johnson led the way for the Hawks with 19 and eleven points respectively. Tobia led all players with five hits from beyond the arc, while Johson led Hilbert with a trio of steals.

Schlagenhauf added eight points in the game and LaDasia Leak chipped in with four points, five rebounds, and three assists.
