THE OPPONENT
Lycoming College comes into the contest 1-2 after following up a 48-12 week one home victory over Widener with losses on the road to Cortland (70-7) and Utica (42-17). Â The Warriors will be looking to get back on track on Saturday before the team begins play in the Landmark Conference.
Offensively, Lycoming runs a balanced attack with about 60% of their attempts coming on the ground. However, the Warriors gain more yards per game through the air with 150 passing yards per game and 117 rushing yards a contest. On the ground the team is led by Terrence Oliver, who has gained 245 yards on 42 attempts on the season. Will Fish has taken the majority of snaps under center for the Warriors posting a 25-61, 331 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INT stat line this season.
Defensively, David Schley (23 tackles) and Joey Rivituso (22 tackles) lead a unit that allows 41 points per game. The Warriors are better against the run than the pass, as opponents gain 172 rushing yards a game and 241 passing games. Lycoming averages 1.6 turnovers a game with Tyler Marshall, Tenye Martin, and Collin McKeague each recording an interception, and Rivituso and Mario Samony recovery a fumble each.
Lycoming is coached by Mike Clark, who is in his 17th season in this role. Clark has been a part of 144 wins, eight MAC titles, seven NCAA tournament teams, 10 postseason-bound teams and six NCAA playoff wins as a Warrior. During his time as head coach, Clark has tutored 138 all-conference selections, 59 Hampshire Honor Society members, 25 all-region selections, 19 Academic All-District selections, seven All-Americans, four Academic All-Americans, a Regional Player of the Year, a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner and led the team to seven wins over top-25 programs.
LAST GAME
The Hawks fell to 0-3 after a loss to Endicott College (58-0) the last time out. Freshman
Evan Willett earned
Hawk of the Week honors for his efforts in the loss as the LB/P tallied six tackles, including one for a loss defensively, while flipping the field for the Hawks numerous times in the kicking game with a long punt of 46 yards.
Jon Whitaker completed both his passes in the game for 39 yards, with
Nicholas West on the receiving end of each.
