THE OPPONENT

After taking down #14 Ithaca last week, the Gulls earned an improvement in the national rankings (14th in AFCA Poll | 15th in D3football.com poll, up one spot in each). The 2-0 start is the fifth such start in program history as they will look to start 3-0 for the first time since 2022's 10-0 start.

The defense of Endicott has been on display to start the year, with the Gulls holding each of their first two opponents under 200 total yards of offense. Leading the way is senior defensive lineman, Hector Johnson, who has 13 total tackles and a sack on the year. The Gulls have forced five turnovers in their two games, with five different players contributing on the takeaways.

Offensively, Endicott has totaled 722 yards of offense in their two games, with 420 passing yards and 302 rushing yards. Graduate quarterback, Clayton Marengi, has accounted for much of the offense for the Gulls, completing 27 of 43 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 50 yards on 12 rushes and another td on the ground. Including Marengi, Endicott has a balanced attack on the ground as three Gulls have rushed the ball at least ten times, and the team has seven players with at least 20 rushing yards.

The Gulls are coached by Paul McGonagle who is in his seventh year. McGonagle boasts a 43-12 record in his time at Endicott to go along with four CCC football coach of the year honors as well as being named the 2023 D3football.com All Region 1 coach of the year.

HISTORY VS THE GULLS

The two squads squared off a year ago in Hamburg, with Endicott finding the endzone in every quarter for a 66-0 victory. Marengi completed 10 of his 13 attempts for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns in the contest, while Bryce Robinson led the Hawks with four receptions for 44 yards.

Defensively, Taivaughn Roach led the way for Hilbert with 14 total tackles (7 solo, 7 assisted) and one tackle for loss, while Matt Bertke tallied four tackles with two going for a loss. Cody Keefe and Corey Monteiro each recorded an interception for the Gulls.

LAST GAME

Last time out Hilbert fell to 0-2 on the young season after suffering a 42-6 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo State Bengals. The Hawks gained all of their 81 yards of total offense on the ground, as reigning athlete of the week, Shemia Clark, posted a career-best 71 rushing yards. Taivaughn Roach (11), Da'von Cockrell (8), and Matt Bertke (7) combined to total just under half of the team's total tackles.

STATS

With the Hawks yet to attempt a pass, the rushing efforts of Shemia Clark (74 yards on 22 attempts, Mike Hanlon (52 yards, 1 td on 34 attempts), and Xzavier Patrick (22 yards on 5 attempts) are providing the offense for Hilbert.

On the other side of the ball, the Hawks are led by Taivaughn Roach and Scotty Winchell, who have 23 and 18 total tackles respectively. In the secondary, Takhi West, Evan Willett and Santawan Stackhouse have each recorded a pass breakup.
