GREENVILLE, PA – Hilbert Women's Soccer traveled to Pennsylvania this evening for a tough non-conference test against Thiel College. The teams played a scoreless opening 45, but three second half goals from the Tomcats led to a 3-0 victory for the hosts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a slow start to the game from both sides, Hilbert got the first shots on the contest in the 18
th and 19
th minutes.
Vanessa Van Slyke and
Evin Stauffer each saw their attempts turned aside by the Thiel goalkeeper before the Tomcats fired a trio of shots of their own. Hawks goalkeeper
Keira McFarland kept the zeroes on the board stopping all three shots in a three-minute span. Van Slyke and
Novalee Schlenker each kept the pressure on with a shot each for the Hawks in the 35
th minute but these attempts shared the same result as the Hawks first two. One more stop from McFarland ended the half 0-0 with the shots being split 4-4.
Two more stops from McFarland began the second half, but Thiel opened the scoring in the contest on their seventh shot of the night in the 59
th minute. The Tomcats did well to keep the pressure up the rest of the way, with five more shots. Two of these strikes found the back of the Hilbert net for a 3-0 Thiel non-conference victory.
