HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Baseball hosted Penn State Altoona this afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader with a home postseason game on the line. With a sweep over the Lions, the Hawks guaranteed themselves a top four seed in the AMCC playoffs.
Steady offense paired with a complete-game four hit shutout from
Dylan Moorhouse gave Hilbert an 8-0 game one victory.
The Hawks completed the sweep in game two with eight more runs and another strong outing from their starting pitcher as
Spencer Harford allowed just two runs in seven innings.
Game 1:
After Moorhouse sent two of the three Lions down looking in the first, the Hilbert offense got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning to get out to an early 2-0 lead.
Jack Duffek's two RBI double scored
Jairo Santos and
Patrick Whelan for the game's first two runs.
Moorhouse picked up another strikeout in the top of the second, and
Griffin McAndrews added a third run to the home side of the scoreboard when he came around to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead.
The game's next runs came in the bottom of the fourth as three more runs doubled the Hilbert lead.
Nolan Evans brought home
Alex Ellison on and RBI triple and then came in to score on a wild pitch, and Duffek picked up his second RBI of the game to make it a 6-0 game after four innings.
Hilbert wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs on a
Patrick Whelan two RBI single.
The eight runs were more than enough for Moorhouse who allowed just four hits and no walks in his first career complete game shutout.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Moorhouse became the program's single-season win leader with his sixth win of the season after a scoreless seven-inning outing. The Junior pitcher struck out at least one batter in each inning on his way to an eight-strikeout performance.
- Jack Duffek led the way offensively for the Hawks going 3-4 with 3 RBIs and a double in the game.
Game 2:
After Penn State Altoona's eighth straight scoreless frame in the top of the first, Hilbert once again opened the scoring with a two RBI double in the bottom of the inning. This time it was
Jairo Santos getting the Hawks on the board for a 2-0 lead.
Nolan Evans extended the lead with an RBI single that scored
Griffin McAndrews in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 advantage.
Altoona got on the board for the first time in the afternoon with a pair of runs in the top of the third to make it a 3-2 game.
Hilbert grabbed the game's next run in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead and make it a 4-2 game. Evans recorded his second RBI of the game on a double that brought home
Patrick Whelan.
After a scoreless fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, a four-run eight inning from the Hawks put the game out of reach and secured the afternoon sweep.

- Brendan Walsh and Dylan Moorhouse each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
