Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Andrew Loveless

Career-high Performance From Demery Not Enough on the Road vs Behrend

ERIE, PA – Hilbert Men's Basketball traveled to Junker Center tonight for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup with the Penn State Behrend Lions. The Hawks fell behind late in the first half and were unable to keep up with the three-point shooting of Behrend to get back in the game as they fell 78-63.

HIGHLIGHTS

Jahmel Demery exploded for a career-high, 22 points off the bench for Hilbert. The senior forward shot an efficient 9-14 from the field, while making all four of his free throws. Demery also pulled down eight rebounds in the contest.

Edward Perez was the only other Hawk to score in double figures, with 11 points. Perez pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for his team-leading seventh double-double of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team was able to create much separation on the scoreboard for the majority of the first half of this one. The teams found themselves knotted at 23-all with 5:50 to go in the first half. The largest lead up to this point belonged to Hilbert (4 points) with Behrend claiming multiple three-point advantages.
  • A streak of four consecutive made threes by the Lions sparked an 18-7 run to end the half and sent the hosts into the locker room ahead by 11 points.
  • The Lions set the tone for the rest of the game by grabbing the first five points out of the break, extending their lead to 16 points. When the Hawks looked to make a push and cut the lead to under ten, Behrend hit a pair of threes to expand their lead from 12 to 18.
  • Behrend held a double-digit lead the whole half, with the advantage growing to as many as 20 points down the stretch. A late bucket by Demery cemented his career-high and marked the final points of the game for either team as the score read 78-63 when the buzzer sounded.
GAME NOTES
  • After going down by ten points in the first half, the Hawks were unable to cut the lead to single digits the rest of the contest.
  • The offense of the Lions relied on the three ball, scoring exactly half of their points from deep.
UP NEXT

The Hawks will once again play in Pennsylvania their next time out, as they visit Chambers Hall for a matchup with Pitt Greensburg on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game will be the final time the Hawks are on the road this regular season, as they finish up AMCC play with a pair of home games next week.
