HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert Men's Basketball earned a much needed 76-50 victory over Wells tonight in the penultimate game of the regular season for the Hawks. The 50 points from the Express are the lowest total Hilbert has held an opponent to all season.
HIGHLIGHTS
Quran Briggs led the way offensively for the Hawks, with 18 points in the contest. Briggs also chipped in five boards, a pair of assists, and a steal.
Edward Perez and
Jahmel Demery each provided the Hawks with efficient scoring, with the duo both shooting at least 60% from the floor in this one. Perez pulled down eleven rebounds for his eight double-double of the season. Demery grabbed six rebounds of his own, to go along with a block and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A layup off the opening tip sparked a 7-0 run for Wells to give the visitors an early 7-0 lead a minute and a half into the game. However, the Hawks answered with seven straight points from Briggs to cut the lead to just two points. After a three-point play from Perez tied the game, Austin Boies hit the first of his two threes in the game to give Hilbert its first lead of the game at 17-14.
- Wells tied the contest at 19 all on a three pointer, but a quick 7-0 run from the Hawks reclaimed the lead with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half. Consistent scoring and effort on the defensive end from Hilbert helped them close out the first half with a 13-point advantage.
- Wells worked to cut the Hilbert lead to ten points, but an immediate answer from the Hawks saw the advantage grow to 16 points on a three from Nathan Moore. Another three from Moore extended the lead to 20 points with just over twelve minutes to go.
- Hilbert never let Wells closer than 15 points the rest of the way and extended the lead to 26 points by the time the buzzer sounded for the crucial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win.
GAME NOTES
- After grabbing the lead with 10:58 to go in the first half, the Hawks held the lead for the remainder of the contest.
- Hilbert dominated inside in the contest, holding decisive advantages in rebounds (54-26) and points in the paint (50-24).
