After Alfred opened the scoring with a layup,

Jessee Jonathan, and
Kayla Johnson all converted from inside the paint to open up an early 6-2 advantage for the Hawks in the first quarter. The Pioneers worked to regain the lead, but
Kylie Morgan converted on a fastbreak layup to put Hilbert back in front, 8-7. Five unanswered points gave Alfred their third lead of the back-and-forth opening ten minutes, but layups from Jonathan and
LaDasia Leak knotted the game at twelve all, before the Pioneers scored twice in the final minute to take a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.
The Hawks followed up a 6-9 (66%) shooting performance in a first quarter that saw each starter record at least two points, with a 4-12 effort in the second quarter to fall behind 36-20 at the break. The pioneers hit on just 40% of their field goals in the frame, but connected on all four free throw attempts to build a 16-point advantage.
When play resumed for the final 20 minutes, Hilbert was outscored 41-8 down the stretch to fall in their AMCC opener and drop to 0-8 overall.
Leak led the way on both ends of the floor for the Hawks with a team-leading eight points, while also matching Jonathan with a team-high two steals. Schlagenhauf and Johnson each chipped in with six points, while Schlagenhauf brought down a team-high nine boards.
