BRADFORD, Pa. – Hilbert College Women's Basketball concluded the fall semester portion of their 2024-25 game schedule with a 73-52 defeat at Pitt-Bradford this afternoon.
The Hawks outscored the Panthers in the opening quarter but struggled to put points on the board the rest of the way and fell to 0-11 and 0-3 in league action.
HIGHLIGHTS
Kelsey Schlagenhauf led a trio of Hawks who notched double digit scoring. The junior forward tossed in 14 points which included a 3-for-3 performance at the foul line along with one hit from downtown as well as grabbing six rebounds.
Freshman
Kylie Morgan recorded a career-high 11 rebounds while hitting 50% from the floor (4-for-8) and
Chloe Champagne, in her final game as a Hilbert Hawk, notched 11 points and seven rebounds today.
Mackenzie Catan found her shooting touch early as she finished with 12 points, knocking down four 3-pointers
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mackenzie Catan drilled a 3-pointer to open the game's scoring while her second deep hit lifted the Hawks back on top 8-6 three minutes in. Kayla Johnson and Chloe Champagne followed with two more Hilbert treys of the quarter and Kelsey Schlagenhauf's jumper with 0:43 on the clock gave the Hawks a 20-16 lead.
- Bradford went on a 12-point run setting a 29-20 score just about five minutes into the second quarter. A pair of Bradford 3-pointers before half time stretched the Hilbert deficit to 11 points.
- Both teams pumped in six 3-pointers, but unfortunately Hilbert's 12 1st-half turnovers gave the Panthers 15 more looks on offense that resulted in a five-made-bucket difference for the hosts at the break.
- Catan and Schlagenhauf each hit beyond the arc, and Kylie Morgan and Johnson scored in the paint in the third quarter, pulling Hilbert within 10 points. But the Hawks had no answer for Bradford's shots behind the arc as the quarter closed with a 57-38 score.
- The Hawks and Panthers traded 3-point makes early in the fourth, yet as the quarter progressed, Bradford was able to also find points in the paint more frequently. Morgan did a get job on the boards in the final quarter and finished with seven rebounds and six points.
GAME NOTES
- Kayla Johnson added seven points and four rebounds while LaDasia Leak grabbed five rebounds along with three assists.
- Hilbert finished the game hitting 35.2% from the field and made 5-of-9 at the foul line while Bradford made 38.6% of their shots and hit 14-of-31 from the 3-point line.
