Thompson Sets Program Single-Game Saves Record Against Buffalo State

HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Hockey hosted Buffalo State this evening in the First Annual Face Off Against Cancer game for the Hawks. Throughout the game, the program sold t-shirts to benefit the Don Litzelman Foundation.

Hilbert goalie Brook Thompson set a new program-record with 74 saves in the contest, but the Bengals came out on top 15-0 thanks to an 89-shot effort.

Buffalo State got on the board three minutes in on their fourth shot of the game after Thompson turned aside the first three. After the opening tally, the Bengals added three more before the end of the period, including three in a two-minute span, to take a 4-0 advantage to the locker room.

When play resumed in the second period, Buffalo State continued the offensive pressure with an eight-goal frame to extend the lead to 12-0 heading into the game's final frame.

The final 20 minutes of the game saw an improved defensive effort from Hilbert as they kept the Bengals on the perimeter of their zone, leading to 30 Thompson stops on 33 shots from the visitors. Caitlin Conrad, Alexandra Heyden, Alexis Cunningham, Kelsey Fuller, and Anna Faulkner all blocked shots in the third period as well.

GAME NOTES
  • Kelsey Fuller and Brooke Kwiecien led the Hilbert offense with a pair of shots each.
  • Cunningham led the Hawks with five blocks, while Conrad and Faulkner each blocked three shots.
  • Thompson's 74 saves are a new career high, and a new program-high for a single game passing Tia Card's 70-save effort at Alvernia on 10/28/22
