KEUKA PARK, NY – Hilbert College Women's Basketball continued non-conference play this evening with matchup against the Keuka College Wolves. The Hawks came out fast to begin the game, but a cold-shooting second quarter led to a 54-32 defeat.
After Keuka opened the scoring with a three, Hilbert rattled off twelve of the next fourteen points in the game, including ten straight to open an early 12-5 advantage.
LaDasia Leak and
Kylie Morgan each connected from inside the arc, before
Mackenzie Catan provided the next four points including a make from deep.
Kayla Johnson and
Kelsey Schlagenhauf each chipped in with two and four points respectively before the end of the quarter as all five Hilbert starters recorded a point in the opening ten minutes.
However, the Wolves ended the quarter with a pair of makes from beyond the arc to bring a 20-16 lead into the second quarter, which they would extend over the next ten minutes. Keuka decisively won the second frame 12-1 with the Hawks failing to make a field goal despite hitting on 60% of their first quarter shots.
The 32-17 halftime lead extended to 49-23 after runs of six and seven by the Wolves in the third quarter. Hilbert outscored the Wolves 9-5 in a low-scoring final frame, but the lead built by the hosts in the first 30 minutes of the game would be enough for the victory for Keuka.
Once again
Kelsey Schlagenhauf paced the offense for the Hawks with ten points and eight rebounds, including a perfect 4-4 from the line.
Chloe Champagne was all over the floor for Hilbert off the bench with three steals and ten rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
