HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert Women's Soccer played a very competitive first half against Mount Aloysius with both teams sharing equal time in the offensive third of the field.
By the final horn, the Mounties scored three times off corner kicks and found good angles to break the end line to earn a 5-nil AMCC win over the Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount Aloysius struck twice off corner kicks, scoring one up high off a head and the second after a loose ball scramble in the box.
Hilbert had a few good looks in the first half when
Chloe Champagne used her left foot to chip the ball over the defense line to a streaking
Vanessa Van Slyke down the middle of the field. Van Slyke's hard shot was deflected over the bar by the leaping Mountie goalie.
Keira McFarland broke up several plays down the stretch before intermission while Champagne broke-up a potential 1v1 attack against McFarland early in the second half.
But the Mounties took the wind out of Hilbert's sails after they hit again just after the break when their fifth corner of the day bent into the upper back corner of the net over McFarland's outstretched arms.
GAME NOTES
- Van Slyke (2) and Champagne were each credited with shots on goal and Evin Stauffer and Julia Fabiano recorded shots late in the second half.
- McFarland finished the day with only five saves, but she collected multiple centering passes.
