HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Soccer hosted the team's penultimate game this season, honoring their senior student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Seniors
Chloe Champagne,
Tahlia Kosek,
Gabby Calandra, and
Courtney Geier all made important contributions for the Hawks in the team's third draw with La Roche in their last three matchups with the Redhawks.
Kosek got on the board early to give Hilbert a 1-0 advantage 1:26 into the match. The senior fired home a
Laura Smith cross at the top of the box for her first goal of the season.
The goal sparked the La Roche offense as the visitors forced three consecutive
Keira McFarland stops, before finding the back of the net in the 41st minute to tie the game. One more McFarland stop sent the game to the break knotted at one.
After three more saves from McFarland started the second half, the Redhawks struck first in the second half to make it 2-1 in the 73rd minute.
However, the lead was short lived as Champagne combined with
Novalee Schlenker to make it a 2-2 game in 75th minute. The senior from Chateaugay, NY scored her first of the season on a scramble in the La Roche box.
Despite a late push that included attempts by
Evin Stauffer and Calandra, the game would end 2-2.
GAME NOTES
- Champagne, Stauffer, and Kosek each recorded shots on net for the Hawks.
- McFarland made eleven stops in net.
- The backline of Hilbert, led by Geier, worked to block four shots and defend 16 corner kicks in the contest.
