PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert Men's Basketball dropped its' third straight contest this afternoon to fall to 8-5 and 4-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference standings. The Hawks found themselves in a tightly contested battle with the hosting La Roche Redhawks for the first 30 minutes of action. However, La Roche pulled ahead in the final ten minutes to earn the 82-75 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

Once again, it was Edward Perez, Shaheem Ellis, and Quran Briggs filling the basket for the Hawks. The trio's 45 points accounted for 60% of Hilbert's scoring output in the game. Perez led all scorers with 21, while Ellis and Briggs poured in 13 and 11, respectively.

Justin Poumpey was all over the court and the stat sheet for the Hawks. The Junior guard recorded six points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds, and a block.

The duo of Eric Jackson and Jahmel Demery gave the Hawks good minutes off the bench, combining for 17 of the team's 20 bench points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams traded buckets from the start, as they found themselves knotted up at 20 after a free throw from Demery with just over seven minutes to go in the first half.
  • La Roche grabbed the largest lead of the half with a six-point advantage, but the Hawks kept it tight as they closed the gap to just two points heading into the break.
  • Much like the first 20, the second half began with neither team pulling ahead. A layup from Jackson nine minutes into the half made it a 54-54 game.
  • However, a free throw and a layup gave the Redhawks the lead with 9:29 to go, and they would hold spend the remainder of the contest ahead.
  • Free throws closed out the conference win the hosts as they would hold on for the 82-75 win.
