Hamm and Schlagenhauf Lead Hawks Against Bobcats

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Women's Basketball team opened the new year with a hard fought 68-59 loss to Pitt-Greensburg in both program's first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest in 2024.

The Hawks (1-11, 1-4 AMCC) trailed by 12 points at intermission but outscored the Bobcats (5-7, 3-2 AMCC) 38-35 in the second half to make it a nine-point game.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alesia Hamm and Kelsey Schlagenhauf continue to do damage in the paint for Hilbert as they both collected double doubles while Mackenzie Catan lifted the Hawks with a trio of three-point makes today.

Hamm led all scorers with 23 points, sinking 11-of-12 at the foul line and Schlagenhauf tossed in 17 points, connecting on 9-of-11 at the charity stripe.  Both players killed the Bobcats on the offensive glass as they shared 15 of Hilbert's 16 offensive rebounds.  Schlagenhauf earned game-high honors with 12 rebounds (8 OR) and Hamm added 10 (7OR).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team set the tone in the first quarter as they traded hoops until Hamm knotted the score at 6-6.  The Bobcats hit one from beyond the arc on their next posession and held for a 12-8 lead after ten minutes.
  • Greensburg went on a 7-point run before Hamm hit a short jumper in the paint 2.5 minutes into the second period.  Schlagenhauf and Hamm each made two free throws which pulled the Hawks right back in a five-point game (21-16) with four minutes left on the clock.  UPG used a 9-5 run to take a 33-21 lead to the locker room at half time.
  • Catan drilled back-to-back 3-pointers at the start of the third quarter and sliced the margin back under a double-digit deficit (37-29).  Schlagenhauf's two makes from 15 feet out kept the Hawks with-in striking distance but the Bobcats found their shooting touch again and built a 51-39 margin before the fourth quarter.
  • Hilbert used a 6-0 run the last two minutes to set the final score.
GAME NOTES
  • Both teams earned 16 offensive rebounds and Greensburg converted into a 15-9 margin in second chance points.
  • Hilbert finished the game hitting 29.3 from the field, made 22-of-28 free throws and Catan hit all three of Hilbert's shots from downtown.
  • Greensburg finished the game shooting 39% from the floor, went 6-of-20 from beyond the arc and made 16-of-19 at the charity stripe.
