HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert Men's Basketball suffered its' first conference defeat tonight at home at the hands of the Pittsburgh at Greensburg Bobcats. The Hawks were never able to grab control of the back-and-forth battle, and ultimately fell 75-67 to drop to 4-1 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Hawks used a balanced scoring attack in this one, with five players scoring at least eight points, while none scored more than 15.
Quran Briggs led the way with 15 points, while
Edward Perez and
Shaheem Ellis added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Perez filled up the stat sheet for the Hawks, adding 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks to his 11-point outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded buckets from the start, but a pair of made threes put the Bobcats up four early on.
- Eric Jackson and Edward Perez each added two points to the scoreboard to knot the game up at 14 all.
- After more back-and-forth scoring, the Bobcats ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 38-29 advantage into the break.
- Hilbert immediately answered when play resumed with a quick 6-0 run led by a four-point-play from Ellis, and a fastbreak layup from Briggs.
- However, Greensburg was not ready to give up their lead just yet, as they answered the Hilbert run with a 6-0 run of their own.
- Back-to-back threes by Ellis and Perez tied the game up, and then Jackson gave the Hawks their first lead in over 18 minutes of game time at the free throw line.
- The Bobcats answered with a three to reclaim the lead, and then extended it to seven points on three more quick buckets.
- Justin Poumpey provided a spark for Hilbert off the bench with a personal 6-0 run. Perez followed this up with a jumper inside the arc to take the lead back for the Hawks and make it a 65-64 game.
- Greensburg closed out the game on an 11-2 run to improve to 3-2 in the conference.
GAME NOTES
While the Hawks held a sizeable advantage in bench points (26-10), they trailed in points in the paint (36-26), points off turnovers (14-6), and fast break points (8-6).
Hilbert used a deep bench in this one, with eleven players seeing the floor, and nine of them recording points to contribute to the team's advantage in bench points.

The Hawks head to Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday for a matchup with La Roche University. Hilbert will look to end their personal three game slide against the Redhawks when the game tips off at 4 PM.
