Double-Doubles from Hamm and Cusack Not Enough on the Road vs Mounties

CRESSON, PA – Hilbert Women's Basketball faced off against Mount Aloysius for the first time this season on the road this afternoon. After the Hawks took a lead into break, a strong second half by the Mounties led to the hosts pulling out the 60-47 conference victory.

HIGHLIGHTS

Alesia Hamm and Avery Cusack led the way for the Hawks in this one. The duo each recorded a double-double, while neither of them left the court the whole game.

Hamm's 15-point 11 rebound performance was her fourth consecutive and eleventh overall on the season. With a pair of assists this afternoon, she moved into eighth in program history with 137 on her career.

Cusack set multiple career-high marks with her offensive output. Her 12 points and 16 rebounds marked her first career double-double. With her career high twelve points she also recorded her most field goals made (4), and free throws made (3) in a contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mount Aloysius got the scoring started with a layup 17 seconds in. However, Hilbert got five points from Hamm, as well as a pair of points each from Kelsey Schlagenhauf and Maria Spinelli in the quarter to jump out to a 9-4 lead after the opening ten minutes.
  • After the teams combined to score just 13 points in the first quarter, the offenses woke up for the second quarter. Despite Hilbert extending the lead to seven points late in the half, a 17-15 advantage in the quarter for the Mounties cut the Hilbert lead to 24-21 heading into the break.
  • The Hawks started the second half out hot, getting a layup from Hamm and a three pointer from Cusack to extend the lead to eight points. However, eleven straight points from Mount Aloysius helped them take the lead, and a flurry of inside scoring allowed them to take a 39-36 advantage into the final quarter.
  • The Mounties grabbed the first ten points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead and take control of the game.
  • Hilbert responded with six straight points to tighten the gap, but Mount Aloysius closed the game out at the free throw line to secure the conference victory.
GAME NOTES

Neither team relied on their bench to fill the basket, with only eight total points coming from players who did not start the contest.

Mount Aloysius did a lot of their damage in transition, outscoring the Hawks 22-3 on the fast break.
