PITTSBURGH, PA – Hilbert Men's Basketball fell to Carlow this afternoon in a low-scoring, tight battle. The Hawks and Celtics traded leads in the first half, but the hosts held on to a lead for most of the second half to earn the 59-56 win and even the season series at one win each.
HIGHLIGHTS
Edward Perez notched his team-leading sixth double-double of the season as he scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Joining Perez in double-digit scoring were
Jahmel Demery and
Quran Briggs with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Hawks moved the ball well all game, totaling 15 assists on 20 made shots.
Kyreese Fisher (4),
Justin Poumpey (3), and Demery (3) initiated the offense for Hilbert.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carlow jumped out to an early 13-6 lead a little over six minutes into the contest off of six made layups and a free throw.
- Hilbert came back to take a 19-18 lead after Shaheem Ellis and Kyreese Fisher hit back-to-back threes.
- Hilbert extended their lead to as much as five points, but Carlow made a pair of threes late in the first half to cut the lead of the Hawks to just one point heading into the locker room.
- Each team missed their first few shots out of the break, but the Celtics regained the lead two and a half minutes into the second half.
- The teams traded points as a free throw from Fisher knotted up the score at 37.
- Seven consecutive points by the Celtics gave the hosts a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the game. Hilbert made it interesting at the end, but timely scoring from Carlow closed out the game.
GAME NOTES
Eleven Hawks earned minutes in the contest, with each player who checked in for the blue and white pulling down a rebound.
The deep rotation of Hilbert allowed them to secure a sizeable 28-10 bench point advantage.
