AMHERST, NY – Hilbert Women's Hockey faced off against Anna Maria College this evening at the Northtown Center. The visiting AMCATS sent a total of 53 pucks on net in the contest on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hilbert goalie,
Jewely Monford stopped the first three shots sent her way, but the AMCATS were eventually rewarded for their pressure, scoring on their fourth shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead five minutes into the opening period. Anna Maria grabbed two more goals in the frame, including a short-handed goal with five seconds remaining, to take a 3-0 advantage into the locker room.
It would be the Hawks who struck first in the middle frame to cut the lead to 3-1. After working the puck around the Anna Maria zone,
Kaitlin Cowie found
Abby MacNeil, who fed the puck to a wide-open
Brooke Kwiecien on the backdoor. Kwiecien made no mistake for her third tally of the season.
The AMCATS would respond with a pair of goals, including one on the powerplay, to reinforce their lead.
With 13 seconds remaining in the second period, MacNeil got one back for the Hawks on a sharp angle shot following a pass from Cowie.
The AMCATS added two more goals in the third period, while only allowing Hilbert to take four shots on net in the final frame to secure the 7-2 win.
